Team and Position Summary

As part of its fixed income investment product offerings, NWM manages two mutual fund trusts that invest in commercial mortgages. Current mortgage fund AUM exceeds $650 million. The “Commercial Mortgage Credit Underwriter” would be a new member of the mortgage fund team within Asset Management. As Commercial Mortgage Credit Underwriter you would be responsible for the analysis and underwriting of new commercial mortgage opportunities presented to the firm by our external originators, written summaries for approval will be required. You would also work with the external originators to structure transactions, and amend terms and conditions as required.   General management of the mortgage funds including relationships with external originators, documentation, and cash management and reporting will also be required. – The role is located in Vancouver.

Key Accountabilities

  • Receive, review, analyze and verify commercial mortgage opportunities for completeness, accuracy, suitability and risk
  • Perform market analysis; review property-level cash flows; work with external originators to structure loans and terms.
  • Prepare written loan underwriting summaries for use in decision making
  • In concert with the Investment Fund Administrator, assist in loan closing process, including the review of documentation for accuracy and consistency with loan approvals
  • Assist in the ongoing financial monitoring and analysis of mortgage loans in the portfolio including, covenant compliance testing and annual reviews where applicable
  • Communicate clearly with underwriters and internal stakeholders
  • Work in alignment with corporate objectives and risk tolerances
  • Keep up-to-date with evolving policies and procedures
  • Performing other duties as required
  • Stay abreast of industry trends

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Finance is required
  • Professional accounting designation is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant credit adjudication and analysis preferably in commercial real estate, structured debit and/or mezzanine loan experience
  • Detailed working knowledge of principles of credit analysis, risk management and financial covenants
  • Ability to understand financial statements and assess financial viability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn and apply new technology and systems with strong excel skills
  • In depth experience writing clear, detailed reports with recommendations
  • Eligible for registration under applicable securities legislation
