The NWM Gives Back is our corporate charity program that supports a number of local and international charities each year. We like to focus on organizations and programs that truly make a difference in people’s lives. With fun initiatives, we encourage our staff to pitch in and get involved. Over the years our organization has raised money or volunteered for The Sharing Farm, BC Children’s Hospital, Canuck Place, The Canadian Cancer Society, and Opportunity International.
‘Tis the season to spread our cheer and share our good fortune with others. On December 4th, our team of 14 volunteers returned to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society for the second consecutive year.
Venturing out of the office, our volunteers arrived at the Food Bank with smiles on their faces. They knew they were about to make a difference. The team volunteered at the food depot where they worked together to inspect, sort, and prepare the food prior to distribution. These necessities are so urgently needed by the less-fortunate in our community and the efforts of volunteers ensure their needs are met.
In addition to their efforts, our volunteers brought with them a donation of $15,126.80, building on last year’s already impressive $11,000 donation! NWM Gives Back conscientiously raised these funds through staff donations and fun office activities.
We are pleased to share with the Food Bank as the impact of our donation is maximized by their substantial buying power. They work with local farmers, grocery chains, and other suppliers to ensure the donations go as far as possible. For every one dollar donated, the Food Bank is able to purchase three dollars’ worth of goods for their different community agencies throughout the Lower Mainland including missions, drop-in centres, soup kitchens, AIDS service organizations, youth and women’s shelters, community kitchens, mental health agencies and children’s programs.
Simply put, The Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s values align with those of NWM Gives Back. They are committed to its vision of accessible, healthy, and sustainable food for all throughout our community by initiating community collaboration and pro-actively working to help end hunger.
We reflect on another successful charity campaign and look forward to the next. NWM is proud of the staff and volunteers who continue to work hard to support this and other worthy causes.
